Gender equality at Diageo

The Equileap Report is an in-depth analysis of gender equality in businesses globally, presenting the top 100 companies which score the highest. The research examined 3,895 publicly listed companies, representing 102 million employees across 23 countries.

Companies are ranked based on 19 criteria, including Gender Balance in Leadership and Workforce; Equal Compensation & Work Life Balance; and Policies Promoting Gender Equality.

Featuring for the fifth time, Diageo is ranked ninth overall and has been specifically acknowledged as one of the top companies globally for our industry-leading parental leave policy, which offers all new mothers 26 weeks’ fully paid maternity and new fathers a minimum standard of four weeks’ paternity leave.

We’re proud to receive this recognition which shows our commitment to creating a truly inclusive culture. We were recently named as the top company for female representation at board level in the FTSE Women Leaders Review, as well as recognised as a leading company for gender equality by the 2022 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index. For the fifth time Diageo leaders, including our CEO Ivan Menezes, featured in the HERoes Women Role Model Lists, which celebrate business leaders who act as role models to champion females.

In the past year, we’ve launched Menopause Guidelines which offer improved support and flexibility to employees going through menopause, as well as Gender Identity and Expression Guidelines in over 20 countries, and welcomed Johnnie Walker’s first female Master Blender, Dr Emma Walker, into role. But we’re learning every day and we know there is more to do, which is why we’ve set ambitious goals as part of our Spirit of Progress ten-year action plan.
